Don Gregory
Director Sustainability & Fuel Technology, BP Aviation & Marine Fuels
His first career commenced in 1970 with a Marine Engineering cadetship with Panocean Anco, principally on parcel tankers, but had a wide range of experience from VLCCs to Anchor Handling vessels, serving on both Steam Ships and many types of Motorship. After 15 years at sea, he completed the Extra First Class Certificate of Competency Steam & Motorship.
Joined MW Kellogg’s North West Shelf project as Quality Assurance Manager European procurement during which he commenced a part time MBA course.
He joined BP in 1988 and has spent 18 years, in marine fuels and lubricants roles ranging from product development, market support and business marketing. Current responsibilities include the continuing development of BP Group’s position on Marine fuels with respect to the environment, sustainability, and climate change He has recently organised the inception of a BP/Kittiwake JV company, Krystallon to provide emissions monitoring and abatement solutions to the shipping industry.
He is a past Chairman of the International Bunker Industry Association. He continues to work with IBIA in raising the bunker industry Quality and Quantity standards. Currently this involves new metering technology to be trialled in Singapore, designed to be compliant with Marpol Annex VI BDN requirements and eliminate quantity disputes. Since 2000 he has taken a leading role in raising awareness of ship emissions and air quality. A major shipping emissions trading conference in 2001, lead to the development of options for the shipping industry and was instrumental in the setting up of Shipping Emissions Abatement and Trading, (SEAaT). He serves on the SEAaT Executive Board.
Chris Leigh-Jones
Managing Director, Krystallon
During his career Chris has spent a decade at sea as a ships engineer, devoted three years to researching diesel engine reliability at Newcastle University and spent five years working on large diesel engine emissions reduction for Ricardo Consulting Engineers. As Managing Director of Krystallon, he is now part of the pioneering team behind the development of innovative emission control technology that is now helping the marine industry reduce the environmental impact of its activities .Krystallon is a joint venture between BP Marine and founding partner Kittiwake that was established to develop innovative pollution abatement methodologies.
The focus of Krystallon is to provide environmental control solutions to the marine industry, marketed through the majority partner BP Marine. Initial design work has developed exhaust gas cleaning systems for large marine engines. This activity underpins the environmental agenda of BP Marine in providing both cleaner fuels and environmental solutions for energy management within the shipping industry. Chris is also the founder and Managing Director of Kittiwake, who provide test, measurement and monitoring equipment for fuels, lubricants and water systems.
Andy Osbourne
Business Development Director, Krystallon
Andy joined Krystallon in April 2006 having spent 4 years in the USA initially setting up their Financial Risk Management business in Chicago and latterly running their Arco Commercial Fuels Business on the west coast of the USA based in the Arco Los Angeles office.
Andy graduated in Accountancy at Lincoln University and after 3 years spent in the accountancy world, moved to covering sales and marketing of oil pipelines for Dunlop Oil & Marine dealing with, and travelling extensively to, oil companies throughout Africa and the Middle East.
After spending 11 years with Dunlop, Andy joined BP in 1987 as Sales Manager for BP Commercial in the UK. Since then he has worked for BP throughout Northern Europe in Lubricants, On-road Fuel Cards, Commercial and Marine bulk fuels and 4 years in derivatives marketing.
After 4 years in the USA, Andy now lives back in the family home in North London and has a wife (Jo) and 2 sons.
Ian Wright
Finance Director, Krystallon
Ian joined Krystallon in July 2006. Ian graduated in Accountancy at Portsmouth University and after a short period in an accountancy practice chose to progress his career through three electronics manufacturing businesses, becoming the senior finance role for a group of three companies.
After six years in finance for manufacturing companies Ian joined the Rentokil group in the senior role for their contract cleaning business. Following eight acquisitions that saw his business area expand six fold to include electrical appliance testing and London Underground Safety Maintenance the business was finally merged with the Initial brand. This merger created the largest UK business for Rentokil Initial plc. Ian held the role of Finance Director based in the West Midlands, England for a further eight years managing the business through significant growth, legislation changes and IT system upgrades and enhancements. Ian then chose to have a gap period of eighteen months traveling the world before joining Krystallon.
