Krystallon’s efforts to improve the marine environment have again been recognised after it was named joint winner with Holland America Line at the Seatrade Insider Cruise Awards 2007 in Hamburg.

The two companies shared the prestigious ‘Environmental Initiative’ award for their pioneering work using the Krystallon seawater exhaust scrubber on the HAL vessel Zaandam.
The Krystallon system is the only marine exhaust gas scrubbing unit in commercial operation today. It achieves a massive reduction in ship emissions including 100% sulphur oxide gas removal and 80% particulate removal.
Krystallon's Andy Osbourne told the Seatrade Europe convention that initial data from the Zaandam scrubber suggested a complete elimination of sulphur oxide emissions with zero sulphur readings from the funnel.
The Zaandam set sail from Vancouver on May 9 this year after having a Krystallon scrubber installed on one of its 8.5 MW engines. It has been on a regular sailing schedule from the port for the Alaska summer cruise season.
Seatrade's Environmental Initiative award is sponsored by the Port of Dover.
