Sea Water Scrubbing
With the introduction of the first Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA) in the Baltic in May 2006, the Marine Industry has been forced to address environmental impact issues.
Our on-board emission control solution facilitates access to secure cost effective energy supplies, ensures that your vessels remain compliant within current SECAs, and addresses pending legislative changes.
Derived from established land-based scrubbing techniques, the Krystallon Seawater Scrubber unites high-quality design with outstanding technical performance to provide your fleet with an effective and reliable solution. Operation procedure is detailed in the Technical Case with individual reports on each of the three key technologies that combine to make the Krystallon Seawater Scrubber.
Key Facts & Benefits
-
The Krystallon Seawater Scrubber provides 100% sulphur removal and 80% particulate removal.
- Turnkey solutions means that Krystallon takes responsibility for an end to end solution; from identifying the economic case, securing energy costs, to system design installation by our approved installers through to handover upon commisioning. Includng full compliance with IMO seawater scrubbing guidelines.
- In service pre-installation and outstanding project management ensure that a Krystallon Seawater Scrubber can complete final hook up to ship's services and systems within most standard dry dock periods.
- Reliability is a Krystallon design prerequisite. Absolute minimum crew intervention whilst providing continuous monitoring of all emissions to ensure that ship's crew are aware that emissions compliance is being maintained.
- Like much of the other static equipment on board a modern ship, the Krystallon Seawater Scrubber has a minimum 25 years design life.
- Full instrumentation providing essential information to the ship’s chief engineer.
- Vessels can continue burning HFO and remain fully compliant within designated SECAs. Today the Suplur Emission Control Area requirement is for an emission equivalent to no more than that using 1.5% sulphur fuel. Krystallon Seawater Scrubbers future proofs your ship, should legislation move to a lower emission standard, (NB the European Parliament has called for an emission limit of 0.5% suplur ).
- Absence of logistical and engineering complications associated with different fuels or lube oils.
- Zero operational maintenance, no crew training or manual intervention – turn it on and forget about it!
- Eradicates all low sulphur fuel availability issues
At Krystallon, we are committed to providing the highest level of service. With the help of BP Marine, we aim to supply as much information as possible to prospective and existing customers. Our project management teams work closely with ship owners to ensure that all potential circumstances are taken into consideration when evaluating the economics for seawater scrubber installations. For more information, visit our Economic Case page, which highlights the considerations associated with abatement technology installation.
